Why Fundraising for MD Research Matters
At Strongest Hearts, we’re bringing people together to promote life-saving research for muscular dystrophy (MD). Whether you’re planning a solo fundraising effort or teaming up with your community, here are ten creative ways to make an impact this summer and beyond.
Muscular dystrophy is a progressive, life-limiting condition with no cure – yet. But thanks to the groundbreaking work of our research partner, Hunterian, there’s real hope on the horizon. And with 93% of every dollar raised by Strongest Hearts going directly to research, your efforts truly help move us closer to a cure.
10 Easy Ways to Fundraise for MD & We Can Help
1. Car Wash for a Cure
Gather a few friends, pick a sunny day, and set up a car wash in a busy parking lot or near a school. Simple, effective, and always a fun time.
2. Scoop Night
Partner with a local ice cream store to host a give-back night. A portion of sales during a specified timeframe is donated to Strongest Hearts. Promote it through your network and community boards.
3. Yard Sale
Summertime is always a great time to declutter your home. Create your own yard sale or make it a neighborhood event to increase foot traffic and funds.
4. Trivia Time
Plan a trivia night with a local restaurant – possibly a small entry fee, offer small prizes, and donate all proceeds to MD research.
5. Raffle Fundraiser
This could be fun during a summer corporate picnics or BTS school events and raises awareness for MD by bringing the community together —- collecting donated gift cards, creating baskets, or services for businesses.
6. 5K Walk or Run
Organize a 5K fun run or walk in your community. Encourage participants to secure sponsors or make a donation to register. This is a great way to bring families and local organizations together.
7. Golf Tournament
If you’re part of a business network or sports community, plan a golf tournament with entry fees, corporate sponsorships, and hole-in-one prizes that benefit Strongest Hearts.
8. Let’s Get Social!
This can be an online forum to ask friends and family to donate to Strongest Hearts in lieu of gifts for your birthday. Use platforms like Facebook to set up donation links and share your story.
9. Bake Sale or Craft Fair
Got a knack for baking or crafting? Put your creativity to work by selling items like cookies, candles, art, or handmade gifts at farmer’s markets, church events, or local venues. Set up a table at a local event – it’s a personal, heartfelt way to raise money, and every sale helps spread the word about the cause.
10. Summer Movie Night
Invite friends or neighbors to an outdoor movie night and you host it. There are lots of ways to raise money by charging for a ticket, snacks or raffle. You can also have a free admission and accept donations. Don’t forget to share a bit about MD and why you’re fundraising in advance of “asking” for support.
